ABOUT THE ARTIST

LAILA MUNRO

Having previously worked in the field of Interior Design, Laila always carried a creative spark, but only came to pursue her dream of painting after moving to Thailand in 2019. She is self-taught and describes feeling a unique sense of freedom, focus and flow during the process of creation. She says it’s one of the purer moments in life and a source of authentic joy for her to create these pieces and she hopes that the viewer shares in that experience.

Laila paints contemporary acrylic on canvas works that are richly textured and rendered in a luscious wash of colour. ​Her work aims to express creativity and authenticity through strong composition and design. She is deeply inspired by the human experience and the world around us. Her paintings are all about the feelings in our existence and her hope is that they will elicit an emotional response from the viewer and/or bring them back to a memory or experience that they cherish. She doesn't like giving much direction to the interpretation of her work because she doesn't want to influence the viewers perspective. It’s for this reason she doesn't title her paintings, preferring to allow the viewer to let their imagination and memory roam free. It's important to her that the observer understands that viewing art is a deeply personal experience, that they can trust their own insights and find their own stories.
